There is a new florist on the rise! If you haven’t heard of Susie Gelman, then it’s about time you get in the loop. The Gelman family literally BREEDS creatives! The matriarch of this family in the past few years has started to bloom in the floral world! She has served at Create and Cultivate with their floral decor team and has done an incredible job with a lot of local weddings!
This year I was able to attend her wreath workshop. It was a lot of fun! Susie is a great teacher. I would love to think that I am the creative artsy type, but it takes a lot of effort! She makes everything look so easy and applicable. My wreath is a testament to her skills!
It was really easy to do! You could even start this project at home. Start with buying a wreath hoop from Amazon, only $5. You’ll also need this perfect little kit from Amazon! It includes floral tape, green wire, and wire cutters. You can see all the greenery that was available to us at the workshop in the photos above! Honestly, if you just take a little nature walk in the Northwest, you’ll probably find all you need. Grab some pine! There are so many different kinds that will bring a natural scent into your home.
We all chose different styles of how we each wanted to make our wreaths. That’s what makes it so fun! I did an asymmetric look, which sounds artistic, but really it just means that it doesn’t have to be perfect. A sophisticated mess. Kylai went the symmetric route, which I would’ve liked to do if I think I could pull it off. Lauren was just super artsy and overarched the top of her hoop! Bre is a perfectionist and wreathed her entire hoop! There’s no right or wrong way!
